Oracle to Pay $115 Million to Settle Consumer Data Privacy Lawsuit

Oracle, one of the largest tech companies on the planet, has agreed to settle a consumer-led data privacy lawsuit originally filed in California for $115 million. The lawsuit, which alleged that Oracle was illegally collecting and selling personal data to third parties, has already had major repercussions for the organization despite admitting no wrong-doing.

Following, and likely a direct result of the settlement, Oracle has announced its complete exit from the adtech business. Up against expanding data privacy regulations, the tech giant's choice to not even attempt to expand its compliance operations is an interesting choice and one that shows no matter how big a company is, failing to heed privacy does have consequences.
