Meta and Nigeria’s NDPC settle dispute regarding $32.8 million fine
Meta reached a settlement with the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in a case Meta filed to challenge a $32.8 million fine. The NDPC imposed a remedial fee of $32,800,000 on February 18, along with eight corrective orders. The case centered on violations of Nigerian users’ privacy rights related to behavioral advertising on the social media networks Facebook and Instagram. In court, both sides confirmed they had reached an agreement, and the judge agreed to adopt its terms.
Once again, we see that data privacy regulations and enforcement reach every corner of the globe and are taken seriously by authorities worldwide.
