Flo Health settles U.S. privacy lawsuit over sensitive data sharing
Flo Health has agreed to settle a US class-action lawsuit related to the unauthorized sharing of sensitive user data with third parties, including Meta. The case focused on allegations that the period tracking app shared health-related information without obtaining users’ consent as required. In its statement, Flo explained that the agreement does not qualify as an admission of any wrongdoing.
This legal action follows regulatory scrutiny in the US, including a 2021 Federal Trade Commission complaint that raised similar concerns about Flo’s data-sharing practices. Flo settled the complaint, stating that it had chosen to do so to avoid entering a lengthy legal process. The company also added security and data privacy capabilities to better protect users’ sensitive information.
This resolution contributes to the growing legal and regulatory scrutiny facing health and wellness apps, particularly those that handle sensitive user information.
