EU Begins Enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA)
The EU’s landmark Digital Services Act (DSA) has officially entered the enforcement stage, marking a new era in platform regulation across the region. The DSA imposes sweeping requirements on online platforms, including obligations to remove illegal content promptly, disclose how algorithms rank content, and ensure transparency in targeted advertising. It also establishes greater accountability for digital services deemed to have systemic risks, such as very large online platforms (VLOPs). The DSA is designed to create a safer digital environment, enhance user rights, and level the playing field between European and global tech players. Organizations subject to the DSA must now demonstrate full compliance or risk penalties.
