Spanish court orders Meta to pay €479 million to digital media outlets
A Spanish court ordered Meta to pay €479 million (approximately $552 million) to Spanish digital media outlets, due to Meta’s use of personal data for behavioral advertising on Facebook and Instagram, a practice that created unfair competition, according to the court.
The court also stated that the user data Meta had collected was unlawfully processed. As a result, Meta is said to have breached both the GDPR and local antitrust laws. The company denied these claims and stated that it lacked understanding of how online advertising works in practice.
