Google agrees to $30 million settlement in YouTube kids’ privacy lawsuit
Google has reached a preliminary $30 million settlement in a long‑running US class‑action lawsuit alleging that YouTube collected personal data from children under age 13 without parental consent and used it for targeted advertising.
The settlement covers users who watched child‑directed YouTube content between July 2013 and April 2020. Legal fees could reach up to $9 million, and approximately 35 to 45 million children may qualify. Google has made it clear that the company denies any wrongdoing.
The motion for preliminary approval was filed in federal court in San Jose, California, and still requires judicial approval.
