FTC settles with OkCupid over unauthorized data sharing
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement with OkCupid and its parent company Match Group after alleging the platform shared sensitive user data with an AI firm without consent. The FTC said nearly three million users’ data, including photos and location details, were improperly accessed.
The agency also accused the companies of misrepresenting their data practices and attempting to obstruct the investigation. Under the settlement, OkCupid is prohibited from misrepresenting how it collects and shares personal data. The case reinforces the FTC’s role in enforcing privacy promises made to consumers.
